Rodgers revealed in a blog post on his personal website that it has been extremely tough period for him to hide from the fact that he was gay. He has also revealed that he could not go any longer from hiding the truth from his loved ones, but he was not sure before how they would react. Hence, he had lived with this secret for this long.

It has been primarily due to the fear that they would not be allowed to continue playing professional football as they have done before. Rogers has revealed that he managed to live with this lie in all this years due to the presence of football as an escape route.
