DONOVAN EXCITED

LA Galaxy striker Landon Donovan has said that he is extremely optimistic about the prospects for this season.

LA Galaxy have managed to retain star midfielder David Beckham amidst many rumours linking him with a move to Europe.

David Beckham has signed a two-year deal with the MLS side. This comes as a major boost for the club, which has managed to lift the MLS title last season. They will be hoping to build on the same success this season as well, and Donovan is extremely optimistic about the same. In addition to David Beckham, LA Galaxy have also brought in former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane to the fold.

Speaking ahead of their first match against Real Salt Lake, Donovan said that he is very much looking forward to the prospect of winning the title once again. LA Galaxy are just one title behind the all-time record held by Seattle Sounders.

Donovan has admitted that he expected David Beckham to leave the club after the end of the season. Beckham was linked with the likes of Tottenham and French club PSG, but decided to sign a new contract with LA Galaxy. Donovan expects the presence of Beckham to once again inspire them to the title.

“We are all very excited and maybe a little surprised that David (Beckham) stayed. We are very excited that he wanted to stay here and be a part of this team and I think there is no question what he has meant to our team and his contribution, particularly last year, was vital and very important for us winning the championship,” Donovan said.

Striker Robbie Keane scored three goals for Aston Villa, which proved to be a massive contribution, during his time on loan at the Midlands club. Donovan also spent a few months on loan at Everton.

USA BEAT ITALY

The United States national football team has been one of the most outstanding and most improved in recent seasons.

They surprised everyone with their quality at the Confederations Cup in South Africa and also at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

Now, they have taken their football to the next level after beating 2006 World Cup in Italy in a recent friendly match. Clint Dempsey has been one of the major performers for the United States national football team. He once again stepped up to the plate as he helped the United States national football team to beat Italy 1-0. This is the first victory for the United States over Italy in more than 11 games played over a span of 78 years.

Clint Dempsey scored the only goal of the game after putting a firm right foot shot past the Italian and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. This result would sound is a major achievement for the United States national football team, which recently appointed former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Jurgen Klinsmann as their coach.

Even though former coach Bob Bradley had done a great job with the team, the football Association realised that they needed someone with top-level experience. This result comes as a major plus for Jurgen Klinsmann ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

“It’s historic for us beating a team of Italy’s level. If you beat Italy on their own soil then that means a lot. … Obviously as a coach you’re pleased because you see them progressing, you see young players stepping up and playing against these amazing, experienced Italian players who have won the World Cup and played big tournaments year in and year out,” Klinsmann said after the match. Klinsmann also gave Terrence Boyd his debut for the national team in this match.

LEEDS UNITED SIGN USA STAR

Championships side Leeds United have agreed a deal to bring in American International Robbie Rodgers. The 24-year-old winger has been at the club on a trial basis and it seems that the club have seen enough in him to sign him permanently.

However, his arrival at Leeds United will be pending a work permit, which is something that the club hope will be sorted out by the end of this January transfer window.

Leeds United were recently defeated by Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup after a spectacular goal from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Robbie Rodgers was watching this game and he would have hoped to have made an impact on him had he been on the pitch. Still, Leeds United will be able to field him in the Championship matches, which are far more important than the third round of the FA Cup. Leeds United are currently targeting promotion to the Premier League and they remain outside the play-off position.

However, they can get into the play-offs position with a decent run, as they are only one point outside the sixth placed Hull City. Manager Simon Grayson has said that Robbie Rodgers will instantly become part of this first team plans if he receives a work permit.

“We’re delighted to have agreed a deal with Robbie. He’s been training with us and he came to Arsenal to get a feel of the group. He has been playing in the MLS where he has done well, he wants to continue his career in Europe, and we believe he will make an impact here,” Grayson told the club’s official website.

So far, Robbie Rodgers has made more than 100 appearances in the MLS playing for the Columbus crew. He will be hoping to bring this experience to Leeds United as well.
