Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie is hoping to prove his worth on the international stage with the USA national team after making himself a first-team regular in the Bundesliga this term. The 19-year-old, who recently recovered from a knee problem, played the entire 90 minutes during his club’s 1-0 triumph over Mainz, which ensured that the Royal Blues remained second behind run-away leaders Bayern Munich.


Speaking after the game, the Texas native was asked about his hopes of another a recall to the USA squad, to which he replied: “You never know because we have good people in the preliminary roster. We also have young people that are coming up that are always making an impact, making a statement whenever they do come in. It’ll be exciting if I do get the call-up. Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has revealed his desire to extend his stay with LA Galaxy for an additional year. The ex-England international has been with the California-based club since his release from Italian side AS Roma in the winter of 2016.

Sam Allardyce interested in USA head coach role

Sam Allardyce has revealed that he would be interested in becoming the next head coach of the United States national side. The former England boss is out of work since his resignation from Crystal Palace last summer, and he has since held discussions with Everton over the vacant managerial post.

In a report covered by TalkSPORT, Allardyce admitted that he would consider succeeding Bruce Arena as United States’ new manager, although any potential deal will have to wait until the presidential election for the Soccer Federation is concluded in February, he said: “Yes, I would go I think, but I think there’s a president-elect in January [sic] which has stalled the process, so if I got the opportunity to speak to the U.S. then I would look forward to that.”

USA team should improve

Bruce Arena said that the United States Men National Soccer Team perform reasonably well in the draw against Venezuela but that there is room for improvement.


He said that the game was only a friendly match and this could be seen in the intensity of the game.

However, he admitted that the players would have to do better on set pieces as they did not appear to be confident on these type of actions.

Indeed the USA team conceded when they fail to defend a corner properly, and the ball was headed into the area. The defenders failed to defend properly, and it fell for Velazquez who managed to open the scoreline for Venezuela.

The opposition managed to get other opportunities on set pieces, and it is only the talent of Tim Howard that managed to keep them into the match.

Christian Pulisic keen on Borussia Dortmund Stay

Borussia Dortmund Christian Pulisic has expressed his admiration for the Premier League, but insisted that he is content to ply his trade in the German Bundesliga.


The USA international has made a huge leap over the past year or so, and he is now an integral part on the BvB setup.
