PULISIC MAKES CHAMPIONS LEAGUE HISTORY

Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic made history in the Champions League on Tuesday night with his crucial away goal for the Blues in the first leg of their semi-final tie with Real Madrid.

Pulisicwas named in the starting XI in a three-man attack alongside England International Mason Mount and the much maligned Timo Werner. As a result, the former Borussia Dortmund attacker became only the third USA player to feature in the Champions League semi-finals.

Chelsea took the lead in the first fifteen minutes of the game through USA national team player Pulisic and could have had more if not for woeful finishing from Werner. The Chelsea striker should have given the Blues the lead on tenminutes but his blushes were spared by USA player Pulisic who kept his composure where Werner failed four minutes later thus becoming the first USA player to score in the Champions League semi-finals.

DEST HITS BRACE FOR BARCELONA

Sergino Dest played his best game for Barcelona after he netted twice in the rout of hosts Real Sociedad in their league game at the weekend. The USA international right-back is in his debut season at Spanish team Barcelona and he was responsible for two goals in the 6-1 away win over the Basque club on Sunday night. The USA player had not scored for Barcelona until the Real Sociedad game at the San Sebastian in Anoeta. He was at his rampaging best on the right side of the Barcelona attack as the Real Sociedad defenders had no answers tohim. The USA player added a second and a third goal for the visitors after the opening goal of the match from Frenchman Antoine Griezmann on 37 minutes. USA international Dest scored his first and Barcelona’s second two minutes before the break. Dest completed his brace for the third Barcelona goal on 53 minutes before star player Lionel Messi scored the first of his own brace three minutes later to edge the Catalans 4-0 ahead.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WEEK: PLAYERS

USA players didn’t have the best of weeks in the Champions League after the knockout stage resumed in the competition. Three USA players were in the squad of their respective teams in the Champions League this week. United States of America (USA) international Sergino Dest was given a start by Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman on his return from injury and it would be an understatement that the right-back had a torrid time dealing with French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, who scored a treble for French giants PSG in the 4-1 thrashing of hosts Barcelona in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.


KylianMbappe was too much for USA defender Sergino Dest and Ronaldo Koeman had to put him out of his misery after 71 minutes. Oscar Migueza came on for Dest for the final 19 minutes of the game. Lionel Messi had given Barcelona the lead from the penalty spot after Dutchman Frenkie De Jong was brought down in the PSG box. KylianMbappe scored for PSG after the half hour mark in the first half as the two teams went into the break at 1-1. USA VS COLOMBIA: USA WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM THRASH COLOMBIA 4-0

The United States Women’s national team were in their most ruthless form as they thumped their Colombian rivals 4-0 in their most recent fixture. Sam Mewis was the most ruthless of the lot in front of goal as she scored her first-ever career hat-trick while her sister scored one more to round up the match and help their country seal the big win.

USA MIDFIELDER SET FOR UCL START

USA midfielder Weston McKennie is in line to make his first start in this season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL). The young box-to-box midfielder is set to be a part of the Juventus XI for the first time in the Champions League this season ahead of the matchdayfour clash with Hungarian side Ferencvaros at the Juventus Stadium on Tuesday night.


Before now, the USA midfielder has featured in two Champions League games and they were both as a second half substitute. Weston McKennie missed out on the Champions League opener at Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv due to the fact that he tested positive for Covid-19. On matchday 2, he came on for Swedish international DejanKulusevski with 15 minutes left of the meeting with Spanish La Liga giants at the Juventus Stadium. He could not prevent his team from losing 2-0 to Barcelona with Frenchman OusmaneDembele and Argentine superstar Lionel Messi getting the goals for the Spaniards.

US Plans Safe Returns for Youth Football

A phased approach is proposed for USA football teams to get back on the playing field. There are reopening guidelines that have been issued from CDC based on which the games would be planned. For instance it is certain moves that involve physical contact such as shotgun snaps, punting, kicking, and passing would not be allowed. There would also be no snaps or handoffs in the center due to the new physical distancing norms.

The governing body in the country for the sport has advised youth leagues to refer to county or city health departments to determine the CDC phase that their communities are in. That would help determine whether the youth programs can be reopened under the pandemic situations. The leagues would be required to screen for the symptoms and signs of the virus before activities commence. They would need to practice a physical distance of 6 foot which is part of the initial plan of USA football’s association. They would then adjust the distance from 3 feet from 6 feet which would be Phase 3. This would also include several cleaning and sanitization measures. It would also require labeled and separate footballs, towels, drink bottles, and other items for personal usage for the players. Those who would not be playing would be required to wear face covers.

The under-17 World Cup in the United States hopes seems to be in serious danger of fading just at the group stage. The Baby Yanks of Raphael Wicky have only 1 point after 2 matches followed by a 0-0 draw in Cariacica of Brazil with Japan as Chituru Odunze, the goalkeeper of Leicester saving the point with an incredible late save.

This point will keep the USA team above the Netherlands. A win will be sufficient for the USA to secure the third-place in the knockout round. At present, Senegal is 2-0 after defeating Dutch who was beaten by Japan.
